Spiritual BathingThis simple ritual purifies and refreshes the energy body and the physical body by combining the healing powers of herbs with the capacity of water to hold intention.
As you gather these plants, do so with a sense of gratitude and appreciation for these plants in your life. Thank them for offering themselves in service for you. Recognize and let them know how beautiful they are, how wonderful they smell and how grateful you are to have them in your life. Some beneficial herbs and plants for your bath:
![]() Once you have your plants gathered, begin to break them up into the water helping to release the special properties of each plant. Water will hold the properties of the plants as well as our intentions. As you do this keep your thoughts positive, holding your intentions and prayers for healing in your heart.
Once this part of the process is complete, drink a small amount of the water (2 – 4 oz) and feel the healing properties of the water energize your entire body. You can let your intentions and prayers magnify by letting the water sit for an hour or so or you can use your herbal bath right away. Letting your herbal bath sit in the sun or absorb the energy of the full moon is another way to energize your spiritual bath. You are now ready for the bath! This ritual can be done outside if the weather permits or indoors in your shower. Use a cup and begin to splash the water over your body 9 times. In many spiritual traditions, 9 is an auspicious number. The spiritual meaning of the number Nine represents attainment, satisfaction, the successful outcome of exertion and the fulfillment of creation. The sacred influence of the number nine supports us in this process of cleansing and renewal through spiritual bathing. As you pour your herbal bath 9 times, keep your prayers and intentions in mind. Once you have completed 9 cups, pour the remaining water over your head. Feel the water cleansing, purifying and healing your energetic and physical body. If the temperature allows, let the water air dry on your body to fully refresh you. Do not shower after your spiritual bath to maintain the benefits. Therefore it can be best to do your bath at night or after your morning shower. If you are carrying a lot of stress or facing a particular crisis in your life, repeat the bath every day for nine days. You can also use the bath if you are experiencing much health and love in your life. Perform the bath for nine days with a sense of gratitude. The bath can also be used in preparation for an upcoming ceremony or transition in your life. If you are getting married, getting divorced, having a baby, celebrating a birthday or anniversary of some sort, use the bath in preparation by starting 9 days before or 9 days after the event. Please note if you are not able to find fresh herbs or plants, dried herbs can be substituted. Adding a drop or two of essential oil can be beneficial as well. Keep in mind that if you are using a shower you do not want to sit in the water once it has cleansed your body. The water has helped to wash away any negativity in your aura which is why you don’t want to sit or actually bathe with the water. Allow it to flow down the drain. Use a filter to keep the herbs from clogging. Spiritual bathing is a beautiful practice to keep your energy body cleansed of negativity and accumulated stress. [To Top] |
